Access Services Committee Committee Meeting March 21, 2006 10:30 AM Olin 702 Agenda: Laptops
WebBridge
MyDocumentDelivery Policy Minutes: In attendance: Carmen Blankinship (chair), Xin Lee, Jesse Koennecke, Janet Gillespie, Cammie Hoffmier, Joanne Leary, and Jim LeBlanc
Jim LeBlanc was introduced and welcomed to the Access Services Committee. He will be the liaison to Technical Services.
Laptops: There was a discussion concerning the fines for overdue laptop use and the different loan periods for laptops at various libraries. The main concern is the occasional abuse of laptop use by the library user keeping the laptop beyond the due date and being willing to pay the fine. No one was sure that this was a very common practice or problem at the libraries. A task force was formed of Jesse Koennecke, Carmen Blankinship, and Joanne Leary to look into this and report back to the committee. The task force will review the policies and/or problems with loaning laptops at the various libraries. They will also compare the laptop service provided by the campus store as compared to the libraries.
WebBridge: Jesse Koennecke announced the launching of WebBridge (software) to replace Link Finder + which the library is currently using. It will become operational on March 22, 2006. It will run at the same time as Link Finder + until the Link Finder + contract is over in July. WebBridge does a better job than Link Finder + in linking Find It "Services" ( Find Articles, Find Databases) and the electronic full text document the patron is seeking to obtain. It will take the patron right to the online document available at Cornell. Instead of the patron seeing "Find It at Cornell" they will now see, Get It! Cornell. Eventually this will link into interlibrary loan and borrow direct etc. so the library user will go right from Get It! Cornell to either the electron document at Cornell or link into requesting it from another library through the interlibrary loan network.
MyDocumentDelivery Policy: Jesse Koennecke lead a discussion concerning a 13 page document written by a sub- committee to spell out the policies and procedures used in document delivery. It is a very comprehensive document which outlines current practices at CUL. Jesse will make a couple of changes the committee thought would improve the document. The policy report will go to PSEC for their perusal. The MyDocumentDelivery Policy will be open for discussion at the next Access Services Forum Meeting.
