Announcements
- PSEC has developed a Web Site which will include space for the Instruction Committee. We'll be posting our minutes and other relevant working documents there.
- We'll continue to meet monthly during the spring semesters on Tuesday afternoons at 1:00pm
- Refworks. A trainer from Refworks will be coming to CUL on Feb. 17 9:00 - 11:00 am to provide training for Library staff. Staff will be encouraged to submit questions in advance on any aspect of Refworks they particularly want to see covered. Further details and publicity to appear shortly on CULib.
Update on WebBridge
Maureen is a member of a team evaluating the possible acquisition of WebBridge as a replacement for Linkfinder plus to run Find it at Cornell. We looked at some sample test pages provided by the committee. The evaluation process is ongoing. We agreed that the Instruction Committee would like to remain in the loop on the WebBridge Committee's evaluation process.
Update on Training Workshops for NY Teachers
Cornell is working with BOCES to provide professional development opportunities for local and New York state teachers. Teachers will be spending time at Cornell on March 24. The Library has submitted several proposals, all were accepted. Registration for local area teachers will open next week, and statewide in early February. More information will be posted on CULib in the near future.
Training Opportunities for CUL instructors
We continued our discussion on what kinds of training opportunities would be helpful for CUL instructors. We talked about organizing a retreat sometime during the summer, possibly on the topic of Technology & Instruction. We discussed using professional development week in May, along with the Brown Bag Lunch series to highlight issues of interest. One idea discussed: a panel discussion on the for-credit, semester-long classes that librarians teach for various colleges and departments. We will gather further ideas and draft a proposal.
Annual Meeting of Instruction Coordinators
We agreed that it would be beneficial to organize an annual meeting for all Library instruction coordinators, where we could discuss trends, issues, and collaborative opportunities to enhance library instruction at Cornell. Tony will explore optimal timing and location.
