  • use of “clickers” in 6 class as icebreakers

Jill Powell/Engineering:

  • Google now has all US patents online and can be used as a good first place when doing searches, no foreign patents or patent applications but can search by keywords, patent number or inventor name

Ellie Brown/RMC:

  • Uses of film “Uses of the Library” – can be good to show students how libraries have changed – looking at putting it up on YouTube

December 2006  Instruction Forum on 50 Minute Sessions:

We asked the group for their feedback on this forum and if they thought we should continue to offer these.  We were encouraged to do so and agreed that 1 forum per semester was a good plan, along with continuing the Instruction Coordinators meetings, as hoc retreats as needed and brown bag luncheons.  Current suggestions on topics include use of library webpages in instruction, collaborative efforts with faculty, marketing and other strategies in instruction, use of new technologies, showcasing instruction sites (MERLOT, LOEX).    Please send Tony (ajc5@cornell.edu) any other suggestions.

There was a question about how does one go about creating and preparing for a class.  Jerilyn Veldof (University of Minnesota)  has written a book entitled “Creating the One-Shot Library Workshop” http://www.tc.umn.edu/%7Ejveldof/WorkshopDesign/ and is doing a pre-conference at ALA midwinter.  We will investigate the potential of brining her to campus

Approaches to Find It

A brief discussion on how to incorporate the new Find It into teaching.  A Quickguide is forthcoming.

Next Meeting:

Feb 13 at Vet.
