Announcements/Updates

  • Our charge as rewritten was approved by PSEC.
  • One addition item discussed was the committee web page- PSEC implementing Common Spot and we will have a space to post agenda, minutes, etc.  Leah will update the committee page when it goes live.

Forum in collaboration with Reference and Outreach Committee
We agreed to cosponsor a public services forum with the Reference and Outreach Committee on the upcoming changes in "Find Databases" .  This would give us all a chance to review it before it becomes live.  There will also be instructional issues for our patrons.  We will have a joint meeting about this, possibly in December.  The question was raised whether this one topic was enough for the entire forum.  We agreed it would be good to solicit ideas from Public Services staff on other topics we might discuss.

Blackboard Integration progress work
Tony gave us the background for the current work on having CUL and library resources more fully integrated into Blackboard.  A new committee has been formed to look into this matter more fully and is composed of Jesse Koennecke, Marty Kurth, Peter Hirtle, Carmen Blankinship, Nancy Skipper, and Tony Cosgrave from CUL and Jim Lombardi, Tony Lombardo, Al Gonzalez,  and Joan Getman, among others from CIT.  They are meeting monthly to discuss these issues.  2 current issues being discussed are the proposed integration of the e-reserve function into Blackboard sites and RefWorks.  Tony reported that there is currently a Blackboard building block for RefWorks.

Other ideas being discussed are ways to use this "out of the box" as well as customization to take full advantage of Blackboard's capabilities.

Information Fluency documents feedback
Members of the committee gave Kornelia feedback on the Information Fluency documents she distributed to us at the last meeting.  Some ideas discussed included the use of terminology (literacy vs fluency),  whether this is something faculty should become more involved in, what Middle States criteria are and suggestions for speakers on this topic.  Korneila thanked us and asked that all other feedback be sent to her and the committee.

Professional Development Day for Area Teachers
Tony gave us an update on his activities too investigate this program structure and where the Library might fit in.  Together with our guests, we brainstormed several ideas of CUL contribution, including general information session to subject oriented sessions.   Is there a way we can coordinate these activities.  Tony will send a message out to instruction coordinators to see if there are others interested in this activities.  December 2 is the deadline for submitting proposal submissions.  The program is scheduled for March 24, 2006.  There are 700 participants expected.

Next meeting: Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 1:00.
