2.  Recap of Instruction Forum on Teaching One-Shot Sessions (Held 12/8/06)

Group members have received informal ?positive? feedback about the Forum. The   approximately 30 attendees shared Instruction experiences, perceptions, and raised questions on a variety of issues.  (Camille has distributed her detailed notes of the Forum to Committee members.)

Tony will contact Jacie Spoon, from the Ornithology Library, for her feedback as she had suggested the topic of this forum.

The group also reviewed and discussed its schedule of public events that it sponsors and coordinates:
  • Instruction Forum -- one per semester
  • Instruction Coordinators Meeting -- one per year
  • Instruction Retreats ? ad hoc, when necessary or appropriate
  • Brown Bag Lunches ? several per year
The group discussed the new book, Creating the One-Shot Library Workshop: A Step-by-Step Guide, by Jerilyn Veldof.  The author is giving a pre-conference workshop at ALA Mid-winter.  Lance volunteered to contact the author to explore the possibility of bringing her to Ithaca for an Instruction Forum or workshop or potentially as an Academic Assembly speaker.

3.  Briefing on Educator Professional Development Day

Eric began the discussion by introducing his plans to develop a workshop for high school librarians, but that will not be ready for this year?s program.  Tony reviewed the libraries that will be offering presentations to this group on March 23rd:
  • CRIO: Model Instruction session for local high school programs
  • Mann: Keeping Current with RSS and Blogs
  • RMC: Using Digital Collections in the Classroom

4.  Discuss Future Brown Bag Training Sessions for Library Instructors

Tony shared a request from Doris Smith, from the JGSM Library, about doing a session or series of Brown Bag training sessions where staff from various CUL libraries could briefly describe the creation, content and special features of their web pages. The group discussed options around this idea.  Tony planned to speak with Doris and may invite her to our next meeting.
