Minutes:

WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE SHORTHAND VERSION OF THESE MINUTES

PSEC Meeting; Tuesday, February 15, 2005, 1pm-2pm, 702 Olin

Anne, Pat S, Pat C, Kathy C, Eli

5 min look over small discussion comments and charges

positive comments re: what do you like about proposed committee structure- good example of what stress others

no new challenges than already surfaced

making committees, not extended extra committees—focus on making the lateral connections

how justify/discuss separation between Instruction and Reference?

Give you thoughts about committee structure that we had ID’d?

Communication needs- have standing committees and project focused committees- confusion as to where topics get sent—clarify purpose of group (have to have expertise and production)- tie in our committees to CUL priority committee- will create lateral links

Staff skills blended into other groups?  Linda Bryan chair of CUL priorities group- do we need to make another group?  Revisit this after a while

Access (fold in ILS)

Ref & Outreach—horizon, work with DLIT and TS experiment?

Research (project within another committee- outlier)

PS/PC

Instruction

User Assessment

We haven’t been aggressive about alerting our publics about things to aid our Research (Ref & Outreach)

Google Scholar:  more in forefront in looking at things- Google putting librarians out of business?  How are we responding to these impacts?  Explain to faculty what thing is and what covers/doesn’t cover…etc.

Need to be more efficient with sampling/surveying

IRPC Steering and IWG no official link—2 groups?  Got them now.

Chairs of committees will be agenda setters, meeting callers

Clearinghouse for problems- for now, work closely with CUL groups

Grassroots, go to someone in committee- don’t want to disenfranchise people in the field- open committee meetings?

Need buy-in structure- LMT and COL- be very overt about making decisions in meetings so stakeholders show- widespread inclusion and discussion of issues

Cannot necessarily rotate people out that are essential- mixture-

Ongoing and programmatic

Coordinate relevant CUL objectives- Whatever CUL mission that comes down the pike, start here and go outwards

Anne will take a crack at committee generics

Assessment committee- add knowledge based clearinghouse?  Part of RAS dept. of IRIS? Coordinate with RAS knowledge based clearinghouse on user and system assessment

Membership should be a discussion

How to do work?  People offer opinions, but not all able to do work- challenge in accountability and supervision in this- can chairs be approached to comment on performance eval?

PSEC will appoint these groups?  Blanket dissolve of all other groups

Set up right, intro correctly, input

More definition, structure, etc.

Take some cases—RefWorks and show how could work through new system

Given structure, do you know how travels?

Think of issues to play bucket game with.

Accountability/relationship to PSEC—anything with system-wide policy/procedure

PSEC:  court and conduit to LMT—this is a channel to get to the top with your ideas

Accountability for PSEC to be better at moving things through
