1)  Mary Beth Bunge came from 1:30 to 2:00pm to give an overview of Library Communications and to accept ideas from the committee

·         Things the Library Communication Department is working on right now:

§         Inside CUL comes out on Monday

§         Annual Report: trying to make it more user oriented (including what the library has done for users lately-pictures, ideas, etc.); RefWorks

·        Send ideas to Mary Beth or Beth Fontana

·        Some ideas proposed at the PSEC meeting:

                  o       “Bend in the Road”

                  o       Engineering Library renovation

                  o       RMC-Woodpecker film

                  o       Hitler book

                  o       Audio media (Law Library)

                  o       Workshop Participants

                  o       Mosaic Conference

·        Beth Fontana should share list of ideas with PSEC

·        They would like the Annual Report to be out by Trustees weekend in October

§         Library Guide

·        New guide this fall (August)

·        Tabloid style of guide

·        Designed as a student piece-a quick guide for students; it will be a Library 101 piece for new students

·        This will replace the peacock (but there will be something to come out as a modification of the peacock for campus visitors)

·        Unit library people should review their info piece on the gateway

·        Who is the audience for this piece?  Change the format for each audience—more detail for students instead of visitors

·        What will the distribution be?  Libraries, residence halls (for student pieces)

·        Is it a reference item (will the students really keep it if it’s in newspaper format, or will they read it once and throw it out?)

·        Format?

                o       Alphabetical (A-Z) was proposed

                o       Color coded

o       Separate by services or collections

                o       Icons

o       Broad categories (A-Z) with subcategories

                o       Add a library map!

ACTION ITEM:

ü     PSEC to look at mock up and give feedback

ü     Invite Mary Beth to PSEC meetings occasionally for an update

2)      Proposed Committee Members

·         Someone from Collection Development should be added to PSEC

·         See Proposed Members list for updates---Committee members were basically put in place, but term appointments and one finalization needs to happen

·         Anne brought updates from the LMT meeting she attended

§         They asked why Outreach was with Reference instead of Instruction—Anne replied that Instruction already has a strong role

§         Floating committees that report to LMT—they wondered how this will change

ACTION ITEM:

ü     Invite Ed and other Committee heads to a future PSEC meeting to discuss this issue

ü     PSEC to think about term appointments for committee members
