Blackboard/e-reserves
Issues and concerns with the drop of use in e-reserves
- If a course uses both print and e-reserves there will be a link in Blackboard to the course reserves page in Voyager; links to the Blackboard login page will be included in Voyager.
- Should patrons be encouraged to go to reference librarian or should access services people be trained for help with e-reserves?
- Maybe we should make it clear that linking is not a copyright problem in the vast majority of instances.
- CIT will allow guest ID’s and is working on a library reserves button
- CIT/CUL will start training reserves processing staff the week of Oct. 30th
- CIT should let us know in the spring what works and what does not, so we can streamline the process; we also will need to gather input from reserves processing staff.
E-reserves communication with faculty DRAFT
- Should be reviewed by several faculty members before it goes out to print
- Should be kept short
- Link them to other more specific information instead of including it all in the mailing
- Make it into more of a checklist, so everyone does not have to read the whole thing
- Sarah should probably meet with the dean of faculty about mass mailings
- The first sentence should explain why this is beneficial to faculty, not why we being forced to use it--“look at what we can do for you”
- Reference staff should be able to help faculty get set up on Blackboard--Should attend training
Action Items
- Bonna will re-draft the communication handout and will send it to Anne and Peter Hirtle
- Anne will talk with Peter and John about the importance of the communication handout
- Carmen and Martha will keep the momentum going on this project when Bonna is gone.
