5)      Review of Instruction Working Group Proposal

·          Per a suggestion from Nan Hyland, PSEC was asked to review the possibility of making the Instruction Working Group a part of IRPC.

·          Reviewed proposal below:

The Instruction Working Group was formed in August of 2001 by Ross Atkinson in order to meet CUL’s 2001/2002 goal of increasing Library Instruction by Ten Percent. Since the committee was not ongoing, it was formed without any formal reporting structure. The group has since picked up enough projects to become an ongoing committee. IRPC steering, therefore, proposes that the Instruction Working Group formally become a subcommittee of IRPC. This would ensure communication among IRPC committees and would help to avoid overlap in activities and goals of  groups working in the area of instruction and reference.

·          PSEC approved the proposal that the Instruction Working Group would be a subcommittee of IRPC

ACTION ITEMS:

ü      Instruction Working Group chairs (Tony Cosgrave and Kornelia Tancheva) should develop a formal charge making the Instruction Working Group an official subcommittee of IRPC

6)      Review of proposed CUL Events Calendar

·          Prototype is at:  http://www.library.cornell.edu/events/

·          Calendar should go live in the Spring and will have a link from the Library Gateway

·          Beth Fontana will be integral in publicizing the database so that libraries will consistently use it

·          Calendar would alleviate problems in scheduling conflicts for  CUL-wide events

ACTION ITEMS:

ü      Send feedback to cul-eventsgrant-l@cornell.edu by Friday, December 13th

7)      Discussion on User Assessment Activities (Kathy Chiang)

·          Kathy Chiang shared her thoughts on ways to streamline data gathering from library users

·          IRPC and Access Services should arrange a Public Services forum

ACTION ITEMS:

ü      Review Kathy Chiang’s document and bring recommendations to next PSEC meeting

PSEC’s next meeting is:  Wednesday, January 8, 2002 3:00pm-4:30pm 702 Olin Library

Karen Calhoun will be the guest speaker at our next meeting
