Reference and Outreach Committee Meeting

Attending: Jim Morris-Knower, Kornelia Tancheva, Angela Horne, Baseema KrKoska, Somaly Kim, Chris Miller, Nancy Skipper, Susette Newberry, Matt Morrison

1. 2008 Budget Discussion.
a. The committee worked on the draft 2008 budget prepared by Kornelia. Various discrepancies were resolved and several projections were made. Jim will solicit budget projections from the chairs of the sub-groups. With these numbers the budget can be finalized.

2. Jerilyn Veldof visit.
a. Jerilyn Veldof, from the University of Minnesota, will visit CUL on March 6. Her presentation to Academic Assembly, her workshop, and her various meetings will substitute for a March Forum.

3. Visual Resources Support Committee
a. A Visual Resources Support Committee has been proposed. A need for oversight of CUL's significant visual resources has been identified.
b. These resources include images, but committee members thought that multimedia resources should be included.
c. A primary purpose of the committee would be to increase awareness of resources, as well as providing training opportunities for reference staff. Would this training dovetail with Reference and Outreach Forums?
d. There was discussion about where such a committee should be situated in the larger CUL committee structure.
e. It was decided that discussion of this matter should continue, including attention to how such a committee would carry out its training mission.
