Reference and Outreach Committee Meeting
December 4, 2006 9:00 AM
106 Olin

Agenda:

Minutes:
Attending: Jim Morris-Knower (co-chair), Kornelia Tancheva, Jill Powell (co-chair, recorder), Susette Newberry, Virginia Cole, Maureen Morris (guest)

RSRS reminder - Jill reminded herself about the upcoming week of statistics, beginning today. She'll send out a reminder to cu-lib today.

Nov 29, 2006 EBSCO vendor came - very good attendance, some 25+ people attended.

Usability Retreat - Maureen came to the meeting representing the Assessment and Usability group. The group is focusing on usability to start with, and Ref and Outreach is interesting in co-sponsoring a retreat with this group during the week of spring break (March 19-23). Maureen discussed how they have explored practical aspects and Cornell requirements regarding the use of human subjects and resources. They have taped interviews they can show. They can share stories of implementation and lessons learned. They can solicit stories from other CUL locations. Suggestions for location of the retreat included 401 Warren Hall or Appel Commons. Lunch places that deliver include Aladdin's and Jimmy Johns. We can have it in 2B48 Kroch, but not if we have lunch. Break food only would be permitted there.

January Forum - The Digital Reference Group and Citation Management Group both have items to share at the open forum, so we're putting them tentatively on the January agenda. Jim sent out an announcement to cu-lib asking for any other agenda items.

Data Mart is a program of interest that David Banush might be able to demonstrate.

February - marketing is a topic we'd like to have

March - usability retreat the week of spring break

April - possibly outreach using technology

It was suggested that we have space on the committee's website to make a suggestion for discussion at meetings. Jill has done this at the top of the Agenda and Minutes page and at the bottom of the Charge page. Send any comments on word changes to her.

Cosponsoring opportunities - instruction committee. Technology and outreach topics could include clickers (Tony), blogging, wikis, etc. We could even use clickers at the forum and conduct a usability study real time.
