Reference and Outreach Committee Meeting August 8, 2007 10:00 AM Olin 603 Agenda:
Minutes: Members present: Matt Morrison, Susette Newberry, Angela Horne, Nancy Skipper, Chris Miller, Jim Morris-Knower (Chair) and Baseema Krkoska.
Introductions & role of membersBaseema - RSRS sampling notifications, monitoring refstats-L, and wiki maintenance Update on Orientation eventsSusette Newberry provided an update on the Barton Undergraduate orientation and sought volunteers. Angela and Matt will be checking their schedules and will get back to Susette. Susette will need all promotion material by 3:30 p.m. on August 16. Gateway AnnouncementJim informed the group that Ellen Marsh, Head of Library Communications has expressed an interest in promoting library services on the Gateway. The R&O committee is going to recommend that Ask a Librarian, Tours, Workshops, Chat 24/7 and Map/Hours are promoted on the Gateway. Nancy Skipper also suggested promoting walk-in-reference. Fall ForumsMost of the meeting time was devoted to brainstorming ideas for Fall forums. The committee members suggested the following topics: September forum - Reference Blog Other Ideas: Jim M-K proposed a forum dedicated to the Class Librarian (see ACRL article Grad Student ReceptionJim M-K announced that the graduate student reception would take place on Sunday, August 19, 2007 and he would be staffing the booth at that orientation. Ref Stats SamplingJim M-K quickly mentioned that Reference Statistics sampling weeks were decided and the schedule was in place. Baseema will send out reminders regularly to CUL public service staff. Ask-a-librarian BookmarkSusette distributed the bookmark designs created by Carla and asked the committee to choose 4 designs. The committee chose ice climbers Fall Meeting TimesJim M-K told the group that he will be sending the regular meeting times to the committee members via email. Class LibrarianDue to time constraints, this topic was not discussed in too much detail but Jim M-K suggested that it had the potential of becoming a Forum topic all by itself.
