PCAC Committee Meeting March 8, 2005 2:00 PM 106 Olin Agenda: 1. Announcements/news - PCAC membership changes (Michael & Oliver)
2. Minutes & minute taking (Michael) - Can we establish a turnaround time for minutes to be sent out to CU-LIB? I'm proposing that they are completed and sent out by the following PCAC meeting (30 days) after they are taken.
3. Duplexing via Net Print (Michael) - PCAC needs to form a recommendation that can be taken to LMT regarding duplexing via Net Print. The core of the issue, as I see it, is that CUL needs to decide how to price this service if it is to appear in any unit. There are two ways it could be approached a per-image fee (where Net Print recognizes a simplex or duplex job and prices according to each page image) or a per-sheet fee (Net Print simply charges a flat fee for each sheet of paper used, regardless of whether it is simplex or duplex). The latter approach would be much easier to implement, but the point of contention is the price should CIT be able to set the price at $.20 per sheet for duplexing, or does CUL decide the price (which could be much lower as an incentive to save paper & trees). The student group Society for Natural Resources Conservation (http//www.rso.cornell.edu/snrc/) has been pushing CIT to duplex via Net Print for years; Mann Library instituted a duplexing Vendacard printer as a workaround to the Net Print issue, but students continue to demand this service via Net Print.
4. GuestID Service Requirements document (Michael)- I sent this out to PCAC some time ago for comments and corrections but got only one response. Does anyone have any feedback or concerns with this before CIT finalizes it?
5. Wrap-up Minutes: Minutes taken by Philip Halcomb News/Updates/Announcements
Net-Print Everybody seems to be on the same page regarding the problems with the Net-Print service and page counting. The General consensus is to get support from LMT to communicate with CIT about duplex printing. Uris and Mann have a demand for duplex printing. We all agree that Net-Print should provide duplex printing to the Cornell community. The committee proposes that a test situation be setup in Olin for duplex printing. Michael Cook and Keene will work on that.
Guest ID Net-Print took up most of the meeting, but the Guest ID Service documentation will be posted to a website. More information on that to come as it evolves.
