PCAC Committee Meeting June 6, 2006 2:00 PM Stone Classroom, Mann Library Agenda: Guest attendees: Amy Blumenthal (CUL Documentation), Sebastian Carello (Asst. Dir., CIT/CSM Training and Documentation Services).
1. News, announcements, minutes (10 min.)
- Approve minutes from last meeting (Laura); Maureen is up next for taking minutes (?).
2. Collaborating on Documentation (60 min.)
a) Introductions
- Amy Blumenthal (CUL Documentation)
- Sebastian Carello (Asst. Dir., CIT/CSM Training and Documentation Services)
b) Why we're here:
- At our public forum in February, a common theme was the need for better staff training in technical assistance to users. Good documentation for both staff and users would be helpful. Combining the efforts of CUL units and CIT could result in benefits to all involved.
c) What documentation can we share/collaborate on?
Some possibilities:
- Using scanners
- Using printers (Net Print & others). Dealing with paper jams, etc.
- Setting up personal laptops to use Red Rover wireless (as well as how to troubleshoot Red Rover outages)
- General tips for good computing practices (antivirus, antispyware, saving data, etc.)
- General tips for PC users using Macs (and vice-versa).
- How to download photos/video from cameras.
- What software is available for editing video & authoring DVD's?
- Where to go for further assistance.
d) How can we share our documentation and edit collaboratively?
- Version control
- Production release
- Dispatching agent(s)
- Maintenance cycle
- Compile on the PCAC wiki site?
- Archive final versions on PCAC main site?
e) Further comments, ideas?
3. Comments on PSEC organization (from Pat Court, 20 min.)
- At the end of the academic year, PSEC is now asking each of its committees to prepare two paragraphs maximum, regarding the pros and cons of the current PSEC organization and suggested changes. The information should be sent to me by the end of June, and I will share our PCAC input with the PSEC members to discuss in July.
