PCAC Committee Meeting September 6, 2005 2:30 PM 260 Mann Agenda:
Minutes: Attending: Keene Silfer (minutes), Michael Cook, Oliver Habicht, Philip Halcomb, Pat Viele, Maureen Morris. Absent: Aaron Wade, Pat Court, Suzanne Cohen, Laura Heisey.
- The format of the minutes was discussed.
- Michael welcomed new member Maureen Morris to PCAC. Maureen is replacing Paul McMillin.
- Philip mentioned a problem he's seen with Macs downloading PDF's via the Library web pages' CGI scripts. It was suggested that he bring it to the attention of the Library Gateway group.
- Oliver announced that Desktop Services upgraded (replaced) their public computers at Olin and Uris libraries this summer.
- Michael announced that CIT upgraded Mann Library's 40 loaner laptops this summer as well.
- Michael announced that Mann Library has taken over management of the Warren Hall computer labs in rooms B60 and 160 (55 workstations total). These facilities will move to the basement of Mann Library some time after the completed new Mann Library building is opened.
- Michael reminded the group that the next Identity Management Campus Developers Meeting was scheduled for September 7th. An update on the GuestID system is one of the featured topics.
- The draft Public Computing Policy document was reviewed and discussed. Significant changes were made to the "Use" and "Support" sections. It was proposed that the document be reorganized to make a better distinction between library workstations/loaner laptops and patron-owned laptop computers and similar networked devices. Maureen volunteered to attempt a revision.
- Michael provided a tour of the Mann Library public computing facilities.
